PRACTICAL INFORMATION

THE VENUE

The academic panels will be organized in the newly refurbished headquarters of the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest from 8, Spiru Haret st. Very close to the main touristic sites, as well as hotels and restaurants of various budgets, this is also the place where SCOPE debuted its first edition in 2014. After a reconsolidation process supported with European Union funding and lasting several years, the building reopened for public events in Spring 2023, allowing SCOPE to be hosted once again in its original home. At the time of program drafting, other central locations may be added  for special events.

ACCOMMODATION

As capital of one of the member states of the European Union, Bucharest has an increasingly large and varied offer of accommodation, with rooms in mid-range hotels at 50-70 Euro/night and even some 4-star hotels under 100 euro/night. Hostels and dormitory accommodation is also possible, usually at less than 30 Euro/night.

TRAVEL

Bucharest is well connected to all major European business and holiday destinations through the Otopeni "Henri Coandă" international airport located at 20 km from the city centre, and it has a growing network of local transport facilities, including metro, night buses and tourist open double-decker sightseeing buses. Taxis, Uber and Bolt are also widely available, including through smartphone applications in foreign languages. Read more about Bucharest

LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION

The abstracts, the papers and the presentations should be primarily in the official language of the conference - English. Pre-organized panels or round tables in French can be also accepted. Papers can be submitted in French as well, but, for practical reasons, if the rest of the papers in the subject-matching panel are in English we kindly ask to prepare the presentation in English.

TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The conference rooms have video projectors. Plugs are available for recharging batteries (220V, European/continental socket) in all rooms. Romania has some of the fastest internet connections in the world and WiFi is widely available (and most frequently free) in hotels, pubs, bars, terraces and many public spaces. During the conference, all participants will be able to use freely the WiFi networks of the University of Bucharest.

NETWORKING & SOCIALIZING

Beyond the academic exchanges within the working sessions, we value, encourage and support the interaction of participants in less formal contexts such as the various coffee breaks and the welcome dinner, as it can strengthen the existent individual and institutional collaborations, it may help build new projects, and most importantly it can forge lifetime friendships.

BRAINSTORMING & PROJECT DRAFTING

If, beyond participating to the usual working sessions, you wish to take advantage of the opportunities presented by a large international conference such as SCOPE to draft or advance a collaborative project with other scholars and you need a room for this, please contact us at scope@fspub.unibuc.ro and we will try to accommodate your needs.

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES

The best papers may be considered for publication with our publishing partners in collective volumes or special journal issues. Various international and local publishers will be also invited with booths at the event.
